READY FOR DAY ONE

Little bags.
Big beginnings.

A little preparation makes a big difference. Please label everything from home with your child’s first and last name, and keep at least two complete changes of clothing at the center.

What to bring

Infants & young toddlers

Bring age-appropriate supplies:

  • Diapers, wipes, and diaper cream when needed
  • Extra changes of clothing
  • Bottles or cups, and formula or breast milk when applicable
  • A pacifier if used, and a comfort item if needed
  • Seasonal items such as a jacket, hat, or sunscreen as requested
Extra clothes & outdoor play

Keep at least 2 complete changes of clothing at the center: shirt, pants or shorts, underwear, and socks. Update sizes and seasonal clothing as your child grows.

Closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended for active play and outdoor activities.

Bottles, cups & personal-care items

Label bottles, cups, lunch boxes, and food containers with your child’s first and last name. Infant bottles must also follow the center’s preparation and feeding-label requirements.

Label sunscreen, insect repellent, diaper cream, lotions, and other approved personal-care products. Follow the center’s authorization requirements for products staff will apply.

If it comes from home, label it!

Use your child’s first and last name on clothing, shoes, bottles, cups, lunch boxes, backpacks, jackets, coats, sweaters, blankets, pacifiers, diapers and wipes, personal-care products, and other belongings.

Unlabeled items can be difficult to identify. A little labeling helps us keep belongings organized, sanitary, and headed home with the right child.

HAPPY HELLOS & HEALTHY DAYS

A little more to know.

Short goodbyes. Confident beginnings.

Tips for a smoother morning drop-off

Saying goodbye can be hard for parents and little ones. Keep drop-off short, sweet, and consistent: give your child a hug and kiss, remind them that you love them and will be back, then let their teacher take over.

A simple “I love you! Have a great day! I’ll see you this afternoon!” is perfect.

Lingering can make it harder to let go. A confident goodbye gives teachers room to comfort, redirect, and help your child join the day. We’re here to help every child feel safe, loved, and confident.

Thank you for helping us make morning drop-offs smoother for everyone!

Healthy kids. Happy days.

When to keep your child home

We know sick days can be difficult. Keeping an ill child home helps protect your child, their friends, and our teachers.

  • Fever with signs of illness: a temperature above the Texas Minimum Standards threshold, together with behavior changes or other illness symptoms. The thresholds in §746.3601 are above 101°F orally, or above 100°F by ear, armpit, or infrared forehead measurement.
  • Vomiting: 2 or more episodes within 24 hours.
  • Diarrhea: uncontrolled diarrhea or diarrhea that prevents comfortable participation.
  • Too sick to participate: unusual tiredness, lethargy, discomfort, or inability to join normal activities, including outdoor play.
  • Breathing problems: abnormal or difficult breathing.
  • Rash with fever or mouth sores with excessive drooling.
  • Other significant illness: behavior changes or symptoms suggesting serious illness, or a need for more individual care than staff can safely provide.

Texas standards allow medical evaluation to determine whether a child with the listed symptoms can participate. Please contact the center before bringing a child with symptoms.

If your child has a diagnosed communicable disease, medical documentation showing they are no longer contagious is required under the standards.

Candy’s Kids follows applicable Texas Health and Human Services Child-Care Center Minimum Standards. This parent-friendly summary does not replace the complete illness policy in the handbook. Read the Texas standards.

Sick-day pickup & coming back

If your child becomes sick at daycare

We will contact you or your authorized emergency contact if your child becomes ill during the day. Please arrange prompt pickup when illness requires your child to leave.

Before returning to Candy’s Kids

Your child should be comfortable participating in the normal daycare routine and no longer meet the exclusion criteria.

Texas Minimum Standards §746.3606 permits return after 24 hours without illness symptoms, or when the center has obtained a health-care professional’s statement that the child no longer has an excludable disease or condition.

For a diagnosed communicable disease, contact us about the required healthcare documentation before returning. Please call before drop-off if you are unsure whether your child can attend.

Thank you for helping keep our Candy’s Kids family healthy and safe.
